How to remove private plates
To remove your plates you’ll need to inform us at least eight weeks before your vehicle is returned. This allows us the ability to return the ownership of the plates to you before the contract ends.
You will need to submit an application through the private plates form.
You’ll need to pay a removal fee of £100, which will be added to your final invoice.
What's the risk of not removing private plates?
It’s essential you inform us at least 8 weeks before returning the car if you need to remove private plates. Otherwise you risk the private plate becoming OEV’s property, and we won’t be able to return the plates to you.
This timescale is due to the DVLA's internal processing times for applications we submit for plate removal.
