When can I add private plates to my vehicle?

You’ll only be able to add private plates after delivery of your EV - please be aware it can take a few weeks to process.

My private plates are already on another vehicle. What do I need to do?

If you are currently using your plate on another vehicle, you’ll need to put your plate on retention. You can do this with a V778 retention document. If you don't have this document, you can apply for it on the DVLA website. Please ensure you list Octopus Electric Vehicles as the company nominee in section 2.

I have new private plates to put on my EV. What do I need to do?

If your plates have never been on a car before or you’ve just purchased them, you’ll need a V750 Certificate of Entitlement. If you don't have this document, you can apply for it on the DVLA website. Please ensure you list Octopus Electric Vehicles as the company nominee in section 2.

Please note you’ll need to pay a removal fee of £100 at the end of your contract, which will be added to your final invoice. Read more about the removal process.

How to add private plates

To add private plates to your vehicle, you need to fill out our private plates application form.

Once we receive your application, we’ll process the change. Once the DVLA authorises the change of plates, they'll send us an eV947 authorisation certificate, which we'll forward on to you.

You must ensure that your plates meet DVLA guidelines. Failure to follow the above process will result in your vehicle insurance being invalid.

Do I need to notify my insurance?

If you have insurance with us, once we have confirmed your vehicle is ready to have its personal plate fitted, we will notify your insurance provider of the change. This will result in a new certificate with the updated registration being issued (if you do not receive this, please let us know immediately).

If you self-insure, you’re responsible for letting your insurance company know that you’ve changed your number plate. And they’ll arrange a new certificate. You’ll need to forward a copy of this to us so that we can add it to your vehicle file.
