Contract amendments

Everything you need to know about making changes to your salary sacrifice contract.

Updated over a week ago

Contract amendments are only available for customers that have a salary sacrifice contract with us.

How to make changes to your contract

You can request to change your contract, for changes like your mileage and contract length.

Here’s what you need to know

  • You need to be at least six months into your agreement before making a change

  • You can make a maximum of one amendment every 12 months

  • Once you’ve submitted your request, we’ll get in touch to confirm your details and guide you through the next steps

What changes can you make?

  • Increase annual mileage

  • Increase contract length

  • Decrease the length of the your contract if your current term has at least 6 months remaining

What changes can’t you make?

  • Decrease annual mileage

Thinking of changing your mileage?

If you’re looking to amend your contract because you expect to exceed your agreed mileage, it’s worth checking your excess mileage rate first (you can find this in your contract). In some cases, it may actually work out cheaper to pay the excess mileage fee at the end of your agreement rather than increasing your contracted mileage now.

If you were looking to amend your contract based on expected mileage increases, it’s important to know that we calculate the cost of your contract change based on current market rates. This means your new contract may look different from your existing one, and could be more expensive.

Transferring your car to a colleague

If you’d like to end your contract early and have a colleague who wants to take it over, we can arrange this by transferring the contract to the new driver.

Here’s how it works:

  • Speak to your HR team after applying to change your agreement - they’ll introduce us to the new driver

  • We’ll send new paperwork for your HR team and new driver to sign

  • Before the handover, we’ll inspect the car for any damage and carry out any necessary repairs. If there’s damage beyond fair wear and tear, you as the current driver will need to cover the cost

  • All paperwork and checks must be completed within your 30 day notice period, so please make sure the new driver is ready before starting the process

Ending your contract early

After your car has been delivered, you have officially entered the contractual commitment of your lease (i.e. four years). And as your agreement is a business contract hire arrangement between your employer and Octopus EV, there’s no “cooling off” or returns period once the vehicle has been delivered.

If you’d like to leave the scheme before your contract, please let us know as soon as possible. We often call this Early Termination.

However, you’ll potentially have to pay a charge - usually 50% of the remaining finance rentals. You’ll also be liable for any charges, if applicable, as detailed in your Driver Handbook.

Any early termination amount will be charged to your employer, and they will deduct this from your net salary, potentially over multiple months, depending on the amount and any agreements we make, all at your employer’s discretion (this is also applicable to any employees who leave the company).

We ask for 45 days' notice to end a contract. If you're leaving with less than that, please reach out to us as soon as possible to discuss. You’ll be charged up to 45 days from when you gave notice, or when Octopus Electric Vehicles collects the car from you - whichever happens last.
