Excess mileage fees

What does excess mileage mean? And how you can make sure your contracted mileage works for you.

Understanding mileage and excess mileage

When signing your contract, you agree to a certain number of miles per year, over the entirety of your lease.

If your vehicle is returned before the end of the contracted lease term (Early Termination), your mileage allowance will be prorated, based on how long you've had the car.

For example, if your lease is for 30,000 miles over a 3-year lease, your pro rata mileage per year would be 10,000.

If you've done 12,000 after a year and are giving your car back 2 years early, you'll be charged for the extra 2,000 miles.

If you return your EV with more mileage than agreed in your contract, you’ll be charged an excess mileage fee per mile. You can find your exact excess mileage rate on page two of your Driver Agreement and/or your signed quote.

For example, your excess mileage charge may be 17.33 pence per mile plus VAT, as outlined in your contract. If you’re unsure how much this could amount to, please get in touch, and we’ll be happy to help.

How are excess mileage fees charged?

Any excess mileage fees will be confirmed after the vehicle is collected. The appraisal report is typically available about one week after collection, and charges are invoiced to your employer within 28 days of vehicle collection.

If you are leasing through salary sacrifice, these will be invoiced to your employer. Damage and excess mileage costs aren't subject to salary sacrifice savings, so you may see this taken from your net pay if you have any outstanding payslips. If you are leaving your employer, you can get in touch with your payroll department to discuss questions about repayment of any charges due. If you wish to spread repayment across payroll, you must arrange this directly with your employer or HR.

If you are leasing through Intelligent EV, we’ll add the excess mileage charge to your final invoice. Please check your contract to confirm how your excess mileage will be calculated. Additionally, any damage charges will be included in the final invoice, excluding costs below the damage waiver threshold (e.g., £500).
