How do licence checks work?

We’ll check your licence before you order, and throughout your full contract length - this ensures you’re eligible during your full contract length and lets us know that you’re safe on the road.

Checking your licence before your order is placed

Before your order is placed, we need to know that you meet our eligibility criteria. You’ll be prompted to complete a licence check using our quick and easy form.

All you’ll need to do is:

  • Ensure you use the same email address that your order is registered with

  • Provide your full name

  • Provide your date of birth and address

  • Provide your driving licence number

If something doesn't look right, your EV Expert will reach out to you to chat through next steps.

If you have insurance included in your package, you’ll also need to check your insurance eligibility.

Checking your licence while you're on the road

We want to keep you safe on the road, so we’ll automatically recheck your licence throughout your entire contract - you don’t need to resubmit anything, we’ll sort it for you.

That being said, you must hold a valid licence for the duration of your lease. And, if your contract includes insurance, you’ll also need to meet your insurer’s requirements. If any recheck indicates changes to your eligibility, we’ll reach out to chat through your options and next steps.

If you become aware of any changes to your eligibility (e.g. endorsements, disqualifications, or changes in licence type), please email us.

It’s your responsibility to make sure you’re driving with a valid licence, but letting us know of changes straight away means that we can work together to find the right solution going forward.

My licence wasn't issued in the UK. What should I do?

To place an order with us, you must hold a full licence from the UK, EU or EEA.

If you have a licence from a designated country and have been a resident in Great Britain for less than five years, you may be eligible to exchange for a GB licence.

If you have a licence from any other country, you may need to sit your GB driving licence test to be eligible to drive our EVs.

My licence has expired. What should I do?

Driving licence photocards expire every 10 years, up to the age of 70, and need to be updated. It’s illegal to drive without a valid licence, and it’s your responsibility to make sure your licence is up-to-date.

The DVLA will get in touch with you to let you know if your licence is close to expiring, but we’ll also reach out three months before the expiry date as a reminder too. You can find out more about renewing GB licences on the Government website.

Can I order a car with a provisional licence?

You need a full, valid licence to place an order with us. If you only have a provisional licence, feel free to browse our cars so you’re ready to join the EV revolution once you’ve passed your test.

I want to add additional drivers to my contract. What should I do?

To add an additional driver to your vehicle, please get in touch with our customer operations team. You’ll be sent the licence check e-declaration, which your additional driver will need to complete.

If you have insurance included in your contract, we'll let our insurance provider know to add them to your policy. If there’s a cost associated with adding your additional driver, our insurance provider will reach out to arrange payment.

If you’re arranging your own insurance, it’s your responsibility to update your insurance cover to add any additional drivers as a named driver on your policy.
